MICHIGAN BARS NOW SMOKE FREE

Michigan smoking ban now in effect.

Well the time has come, May 1st 2010 you can no longer smoke in your favorite East Lansing Bars. Or any Michigan bar for that matter.

I ended up heading out to a few bars this weekend and it was definitely much easier breathing but i also feel bad for the smokers that are regulars.

Here is my quick breakdown of what business it will affect the most.

• Regulars who hang during the week around EL
• Students / coffee shops during the week.
• Bars that are slums... meaning bars that smell better while Smokey then while non smokey

Other than that i really don't see much decline in business on weekends because we all see lines around the block at most of our favorites.  For every smoker that doesn't go out anymore means shorter lines for the non smokers.

We'd also love to give a shout out to the Detroit Free Press for giving us a shout-out during an interview at the POST in East Lansing.  Below are a handful of opinions from students i saw or overheard this past weekend at various EL bars.

"Well it sucks, but i guess its for the best." -LCC student

"It was weird coming to school in Michigan because Cincinnati has been like that for a while.  It made me remember why i hate smoking so much" -Cooley Law Student

"If you hate smoke don't go to bars!" - Lansing Sienna Heights University student
